Central Coast Beach House Remodel Addition
A Central Coast Home Becomes a Sanctuary
Looking for inspiration for your own home transformation? Let us take you through one of our most exciting remodel addition projects that turned a dated 1970s beach duplex into a stunning modern retreat!
This comprehensive project began with a simple vision: transform an outdated rental into a sophisticated beach haven perfect for both full-time living and hosting weekend guests. The challenge? Taking a two-story duplex with only exterior stair access and turning it into a contemporary dream home.
The Solution Plus Some Upgrades
Our remodel addition journey started by tackling the layout’s biggest pain point: we designed an enclosed stairwell and welcoming entry porch, instantly adding 200 square feet of living space. This smart remodel addition decision set the stage for what we call a “reverse floor plan,” maximizing those precious ocean views from the main living area.
The scope of our project included some serious upgrades. We expanded and rebuilt the second-story deck, installing modern Trex decking and sleek cable rail guards – perfect for enjoying those stunning coastal views. Both bathrooms and kitchens got complete makeovers, and we added clever features like double-sided closets (Hello, Airbnb potential!) and transformed the carport into a flexible living room-bedroom space.
This Remodel Addition Project Details
What makes this project special is the attention to detail. We used custom-milled cedar nickel gap siding from Big Creek Lumber and modern cement siding for a contemporary exterior. Inside, we went down to the studs, installing a state-of-the-art gas fireplace with a “cool wall” system that lets you mount your TV above without worry.
The interior finishes in this remodel addition blend functionality with style:
– Sleek, minimal design with clean-lined cabinets
– Innovative toe-kick drawers for extra storage
– Smooth level 5 drywall throughout
– Luxury vinyl tile flooring
– Warm cedar wood ceilings
– Custom tile work in bathrooms and kitchens
– EnergyStar-rated appliances
Sustainability
This project isn’t just about looks – it’s also super-efficient! We created a near net-zero solar power home with:
– Advanced inverter heat pump system
– Enhanced insulation exceeding code requirements
– Smart water management systems
– Exterior beach shower with convenient controls
– Low-maintenance landscaping
Navigating the California Coastal Zone requirements was tricky, but our extensive planning and design process paid off beautifully. The result? A stunning modern beach house completed in 2024 that proves how the right remodel addition can completely transform a dated property into your dream home.
